Event Masking in Barcelona: Should You Rent BeMatrix or Pipe and Drape?

You have booked a venue in Barcelona or Madrid. Now, you need to divide the space, hide service areas, or improve the acoustics.

The question is: Which system should you use?

At Saez Decom, we own large rental stocks of both BeMatrix (modular frames) and Pipe & Drape. Both are excellent, but they serve different purposes.

Production Managers often ask us which one is “better.” The answer depends on your specific goal: Do you need perfect acoustics or perfect aesthetics?

Here is our technical comparison to help you decide.

1. Acoustics: Why Pipe & Drape is King

If your venue is a concrete echo chamber (like some halls at Fira Gran Via), Pipe & Drape is your best friend.

    • The “Trap” Effect: Unlike flat walls, Pipe & Drape hangings are usually installed with “fullness” (pleats). We typically install our Molton Trevira CS drapes with 50% to 100% fullness.

    • Sound Absorption: These folds trap sound waves. They prevent audio from bouncing off hard walls. This significantly improves speech intelligibility during conferences.

    • Our System: We use the premium USA product with heavy-duty Trevira CS Molton. This ensures maximum sound dampening compared to thinner fabrics.

Winner for Sound: Pipe & Drape.

2. Aesthetics: The “Clean Wall” Look

If your client wants a seamless, architectural finish that looks like a built wall, BeMatrix is the solution.

    • Wrinkle-Free: BeMatrix uses SEG (Silicone Edge Graphics). The fabric is stretched perfectly tight over an aluminium frame. There are no folds or wrinkles.

    • Branding: We can print high-resolution graphics directly onto the walls.

    • Integration: We can install real doors, TV screens, and shelves directly into the wall.

Winner for Visuals: BeMatrix.

3. Flexibility & Speed: The Agile Choice

Sometimes, you need to change the room layout in minutes.

    • Pipe and Drape: This system is incredibly fast. Telescopic uprights allow us to adjust height and width instantly. If you need to open a massive emergency exit or change a dressing room size on the fly, Pipe and Drape is unbeatable.

    • BeMatrix: While fast to build, it is a rigid structure. Once it is bolted together, it stays there.

Winner for Flexibility: Pipe & Drape.

4. The Saez Decom Hybrid Approach

Why choose just one? The best events often use a mix of both systems.

We frequently design layouts where:

    1. BeMatrix is used for the high-impact areas (stage backdrops, entrance tunnels, VIP lounges) where aesthetics are critical.

    2. Pipe & Drape is used for the perimeter masking and catering areas to kill the echo and lower costs.

Summary: We Have the Right Tool for You

Don’t let a supplier force you into a system just because it is the only one they have.

At Saez Decom, we are experts in Space Transformation. We own and maintain both systems in our Barcelona warehouse.
